Etape du dales

Brian G0RHI and Mike G7HEN are looking for operators for the Etape du dales on the 15th May 2022. Please let them know if you are available.

The Etape du dales covers 110 miles in the Yorkshire Dales, as in previous years it will be starting and finishing at Wharfedale Rugby Club in Threshfield near Grassington. The 2018 event turned the tables and went the opposite way round to the traditional route, and many riders liked the change and the option of a shorter route, so the organisers are keeping it that way round for another year. The Etape du Dales is an extremely difficult ride and requires an excellent level of fitness, and riders are now faced with the northern ascents of Buttertubs and Fleet Moss, the summit of the latter coming at just 20 miles to go! The course has good signage.

Pubs & Clubs On The Air – PACOTA

Pubs & Clubs On The Air May 13th/14th/15th 2022

The fairly recent wave of “OTA” events, be it Summits, Museums, Railways, Churches, Mills, JOTA etc, seems to be a good way of spreading the word of Amateur Radio to the general public, and hopefully increasing our numbers.

As well as increasing Amateur numbers it may help to attract more regulars, something everyone in this trade would probably welcome. The event took place in May 2018. Six Stations took part, this year we added to that list with 10 stations taking part.

Thank you, Etape du Dales

I’d just like to say a massive thank you to the whole RAYNET team that made the Etape du Dales possible last weekend. The weather conditions for the riders were atrocious as I’m sure they were for you too, but without your communication support this event just wouldn’t happen.

Of course you’re all dotted around the hills and dales of Yorkshire so there are not many that I get to meet or thank personally, but the sterling contribution you make to our event making sure all the riders return home safely is just awesome, so thanks once again and I look forward to working with you all again next year.

White Rose Classic 24 June

Keighley and Richmond RAYNET will be providing radio safety cover for White Rose Classic. White Rose Classic is considered a premier road cycling sportive in the North. Re-established in 2012 by the newly re-formed Ilkley Cycling Club, this sell-out, 1000 rider event aims to provide a challenging day out through some of the most spectacular Yorkshire Dales scenery – taking in some of its classic (read toughest) climbs! With three routes to choose from, the event provides for differing levels of ability and experience. Whether you are a whippet-like club rider looking for a gold standard time, or want a more leisurely, but challenging, day out in the saddle, the White Rose Classic has something for you.The White Rose Classic is organised and run by volunteers from Ilkley Cycling Club in conjunction with British Cycling. Profit from your entry fee goes towards promoting local grass-roots cycling initiatives, including a very active youth-development programme, as well as encouraging more men and women to ride bikes as per our club motto, From Recreation to Racing.
